Amudha is a classical thriller that has been presented extremely well. It starts with the artist Devanesan drawing the sketches of supposedly dead people. His ideas of communicating with them and then with their permission to draw the sketches of their spooky nature are interesting as well.

And when he tries to communicate with a dead child Amudha he realizes one more truth and that forms the climax. It is a real beauty.

The first thing that attracts us towards this short film is the Camera movements. It is so smooth and moves so well with the protagonist. Then the cool and chilling effect makes the ambience chillier. Thankfully the film does not happen in a night which is the usual custom of these kinds of films. But without nights these films do not bring the desired effect as well. This film strikes a balance and takes off beautifully. The available light has been used throughout and nothing seems out of place. Great work!

The episode inside the apartment is a clear thriller. Right from the door opening- with the not too bluish toning- the expectation of visiting the unknowns catches up with the viewer. The properties of the unoccupied place, for example the tea cup, add some kind of mystery to the situation. Then the ghost moving in a shadow is so interesting. Finally, when the protagonist meets the ghost child Amudha, it calms us a little bit till she says her dead uncle is also living along with her. It is a winner till the end.

The child Amudha is fantastic. What a voice and expression! She is a born Artist!

Finally, the whole film is carried forward by Devanesan, the protagonist, who has never blundered in any single frame. He is so natural and his expressions, though only nuances, are brilliant. Then everything has been executed with a intelligent storytelling and director Deepan , is surely a gifted film maker. It is purely a director’s film

The best part of this film is that the scary feeling that it creates hangs onto the heart even after the film comes to an end. . Well done Deepan!

- Review by Ravi Joghee
ABOUT RAVI JOGHEE: Though Mastered in Statistics and Operations Research, it had been my passion to get into film making and well, I got the best offers in Tamil Cinema and had been working for almost 12 years in movies such as Ullaasam, Samurai, Whistle, Kaadhal, Kallloori and more . Having fairly learned the techniques, I have realized that the screen writing is the real forte of any film and it has not developed so much in South India for there are not many books in the regional languages available for the aspiring young film makers to read. So I went on to study all screen writing theories from the world’s leading film institutes myself and now, I am well equipped to deal with any situation in a story. Unequivocally, reviews sharpen any mind and here I am,, reviewing!
